3 Elements To Optimize Your Weight Training Technique

What Is Weight Training Technique?

Resistance training is a very effective way to build muscle and transform ones physique. Just like everything that we perform there is going to be a correct way to lift weights and perform certain exercises as well as incorrect ways. This is how technique comes into the equation. Weight training technique is simply the technique used in order to optimize the exercise one is performing to produce better results. Getting the most out of every rep of every exercise is the best way to get better results in less time.

The 3 Elements

Element 1: Resistance Characteristics

The human body is composed of a lot of different moving objects which our muscles are responsible for moving as well as holding them stable. Most of the movements that the body performs are rotary movements around a joint. So the first element is to understand the characteristics of the resistance that is needed to optimize the exercise and muscle one is training. Of course this will vary depending on the muscle and exercise being performed. For example, in the video I use the exercises bicep curls as well as dumbbell shrugs to further more explain element 1 to optimizing your weight training technique.

Element 2: Stabilization

The core and abdominal muscles are there to help stabilize our body when being active. A lot of people do not realize how important it is to have a strong base and be stabile while performing an exercise. When the goal is to build muscle for a certain muscle group and one is performing and exercise to target that certain muscle then it is important to be stabile so that the muscle being worked will be the one receiving the most targeted resistance. It is going to depend on the exercise being performed on how one will stabilize themselves. For example, in the video I use tricep extensions to show that we can have a stabile base by simply staggering our feet farther apart. Remember to always stabilize yourself when performing an exercise in order to optimize your weight training because one will be able to lift more weight which will result in more muscle growth.

Element 3: Body Orientation

Since our body is composed of mostly rotary movements around a joint this makes a fixed direction of resistance not optimal. What does that mean exactly? In the most ideal situation the point where the resistance is coming from would change as we performed the exercise especially with rotary movements. Since this is not possible at most gyms and facilities we can manipulate the orientation of our body to optimize the exercise being performed. For example, in the video I use tricep extensions to show that by stepping back a couple of steps from the cable machine we can optimize the exercise to produce better results and more muscle growth. The tricep becomes progressively stronger the more it is contracted or flexed, so stepping back a couple of steps when doing tricep extensions this helps to ensure that the most resistance is on the muscle when it is in its strongest position.

Summary

Resistance training is a very effective way to produce muscle growth through performing different exercises for different muscle groups. In oder to get the most out of our training it is important to go through these 3 elements to optimize your weight training technique. It is simple to do and can yield better results for all of the hard work that is being put into your workouts. It is easy as 1 2 3, and can be applied to every exercise that one performs inside of the gym no matter which muscle group they are training.
